Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of the treatment and disposal of rejects and tailings including:

correctly interpreting and applying work instructions

selecting and using the required tools and equipment

working wearing appropriate personal protective equipment

accessing, interpreting and applying technical information

identifying and applying diagnostic techniques

identifying and applying chemical and fuel safety measures

disposal of environmentally sensitive fluids and materials

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the treatment and disposal of rejects and tailings that meet all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communication techniques to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

demonstrates completion of the treatment and disposal of rejects and tailings that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

completing pre-start, start-up and shutdown operations

reading and interpreting mineralogical data

inspecting and preparing the work area, including

identification of hazards

selection and implementation of hazard control measures

monitoring and adjusting the displacement and addition of water

monitoring and adjusting additives to materials

monitoring and adjusting the addition of settling and clarity agents

inspecting, finding, recording and reporting faults

completing operator maintenance of tools and equipment


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in treating and disposing of rejects and tailings through:

identifying and complying with site operational, quality and communication requirements

identifying site product characteristics

accessing, interpreting and using site geological and survey data

identifying and applying plant pre-start, start-up, operating and shutdown techniques

identifying plant components functions, characteristics, technical capability and limitations

identifying and complying with plant isolation procedures

identifying and applying contaminant identification techniques

accessing, interpreting and applying site environmental requirements and constraints
